The National Building Code requires that my builder meet certain energy efficiency targets.

That’s actually fiction. In the current edition on the National Building Code there are no minimum requirements for insulation or over all energy efficiency. Your builder could actually build your home with no insulation at all and still meet minimum NBC standards. That’s about to change. The new addition of the NBC, slated to be released in the new year, will require all new homes must achieve minimum insulation levels. Although not finalized yet, those new minimum standards will include R20 for all basement walls, R10 under basement floors, R25 for exterior walls and R50 for attics. For most builders that will mean a significant shift in their building techniques. Some builders do not put any insulation in the basement unless specifically asked by you to do so. Those new minimum standards are not going to be a problem for EnerMax Homes. All our homes are already constructed to meet the new code requirements even though it is not legislated yet. EnerMax Homes is pleased to be a green home builder based in Halifax Nova Scotia.
