That’s actually fiction. When Premier Darrell Dexter announced the new $7000.00 tax credit in early July he outlined very specific qualification criteria that must be met in order for a new home to qualify for the 50% PST tax rebate. The new home must have a building permit dated after Jan 1st 2009, the home must be completed before March 31st, 2010 and only 1500 rebates are available. That means that if you are planning to buy a new home that is already completed chances are the building permit was dated before January 1st and that home would not qualify. While the program has not been officially launched it is expected that new home purchasers would “prequalify” for the rebate by submitting an application along with their building permit. The first 1500 applicants would then be put on a prequalification list. When you receive your occupancy permit you would forward that to the provincial government for your rebate.
