Basements Account for 20-30% Of A Homes Heat Loss

That’s a Fact. If your home’s basement is unfinished and there is no insulation in the walls or under the basement floor you are losing 20-35% of your heat. Basements will lose the majority of their heat in areas above grade but the old belief that the earth is a good insulator is false.  For best results all exterior basement walls should be insulated to at least R20 and the area under the basement floor should have at least 2” of rigid foam insulation. Every home built by EnerMax Homes has 2” of insulation under the basement slab and all the exterior walls are studed, insulated and gyproced. In some cases we will use ICF foundation construction to give you even more energy efficiency in your basement.
