All Home Builders Must Be Licenced

That’s actually fiction. Presently there are no regulations in place that require home builders be licensed or have any specific training or certifications. Anyone can register a company and call themselves a home builder. While organizations like the Nova Scotia Home Builders Association do an excellent job of providing builders with training, resources and some certifications, this training is completely voluntary. So how do you know your builder can actually build you a house? Do your research. Check to ensure your builder is a member of industry associations like the NSHBA, BBB and Atlantic Home Warranty. Has your builder received any recognition or awards? Does your builder provide detailed written estimates? Do they have liability insurance and WCB coverage?
