NDP Announce Details of New Home PST Tax Credit

Premier Darrell Dexter and the Nova Scotia NDP have made good on a promise to offer a PST tax rebate to purchasers of newly built homes. The province will offer a one-time new home construction rebate equivalent to 50 per cent of the provincial portion of the HST, Premier Darrell Dexter announced today. “Government is fulfilling a commitment to reduce the HST on new home construction to stimulate the economy while creating and maintaining jobs for skilled tradespeople,” said Premier Dexter. Homeowners who have a municipal construction permit dated January 1st, 2009 or later will be eligible. The incentive offers a 4% rebate on the PST tax and is limited to a maximum of $7,000 per home. Only fifteen hundred rebates will be available and construction on the new home must be completed by March 31 in order to qualify.
