Icynene Insulation

Probably our most valued partner. The Icynene expandable foam insulation system has been used for years in many other parts of Canada and around the world, but really hasn’t been utilized to its full potential in Atlantic Canada, until now. The Icynene expandable foam insulation system is used in every EnerMax Home. No more pink for us.

The Icynene Insulation System® acts as both an insulation and a continuous air barrier. Icynene® is a qualified air barrier at only one inch thickness . When sprayed, it expands 100 times its original volume to fill all cracks and penetrations to reduce air leakage and energy costs by up to 50%. Icynene® is installed in the 2X6 exterior walls to an average thickness of 5.5”, providing an R-value of R19 and on the floor of the vented attic at 8” thickness, providing an R-value of R29. In addition to providing an optimal R-value, Icynene® also significantly lowers the air leakage of the home. Icynene® is 100% water-blown and does not contain any synthetic blowing agents, CFCs, formaldehyde, HCFCs or PBDEs which can off-gas in the indoor environment. When sprayed in the exterior walls, it also reduces the entry of outdoor allergens, pollutants and airborne moisture resulting in an improved indoor environment. The average house emits ~11 tonnes of greenhouse gases a year. The largest portion of that, about 40 per cent, comes from heating and cooling . By reducing the home’s energy requirements, Icynene® assists in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The Icynene Insulation System® is recognized across North America for contributing to improved indoor air quality. Its “green” properties have drawn much attention with many healthy building initiatives such as the American Lung Association’s Health House® projects. This national education program was created by the American Lung Association of Minnesota to raise the standards for healthier indoor environments. As a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), Icynene reinforces its commitment to learning about sustainable building practices so that we are better able to provide a premium insulation that is uniquely suited to meeting your needs. The USGBC indicates that materials selected in buildings have a tremendous impact on the environment and that there are numerous ways to lessen that impact.
